Who was one of the most beloved first ladies?

Dolley Payne Todd Madison was one of the most well loved first ladies and known as a terrific hostess. Because Thomas Jefferson’s wife died before his election, she helped him at official state functions during his presidency. When she married Madison, the Society of Friends disowned her as her husband was not a Quaker. She only had one surviving child by a previous marriage.
