Mary McLeod Bethune
(1875-1955)
Born into poverty during the Reconstruction South, Bethune became a member of FDR’s “Black Cabinet;” advised four presidents; catapulted into a Civil Rights leader, and founded the all girls, Bethune-Cookman University.
