PARTING THE WATERS
A feature-length documentary about trauma, hope, and courage.
Michele Kuvin Kupfer was a member of the 1980 Israeli Olympic Swim team and the 1981 Maccabiah Games, where she underwent a personal and athletic coming of age.
Now after 40 years, and in the midst of incredible personal loss and tribulation, Michele tries to reassemble some of her teammates and compete in the 2022 Maccabiah Games.
Inspired by Michele and her teammates’ life experiences, the documentary chronicles Michele’s own personal journey from young-to-masters swimmer, in the context of Jewish life in the US and Israel through the prism of the world of sport.
Parting The Waters premiered at the Oscar-Qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival where it won 1st Prize for Best Feature Length Documentary.
The Marcs Studios and Directors Michele Kuvin Kupfer, Marc Levy, and Marc Salomon proudly announce the New York City Premiere of Parting the Waters, which has been selected for the Feature Documentary program of the famous Chelsea Film Festival, screening on October 16, 2025 at the Regal Union Square (850 Broadway, New York, NY 10003) at 7 pm. more
